Parents in Sport Week

Parents in Sport Week back to News

A recent YouGov survey found that more than a third of parents (38%), with children who are members of sports or leisure clubs in the UK, said that either they had never received, or could not recall being sent, any information about safeguarding measures by their child’s club, when asked to think about the club their child joined first.

We know that just because parents may not have seen a club’s safeguarding information, it doesn’t mean that safeguarding policies and procedures are not in place. But it’s clear from this statistic that parents aren’t seeing this information as often as they should.

All parents should be able to say that they know how a club protects their child from harm. They should also be able to access information about safeguarding procedures at your club whenever they need to.

This Parents in Sport Week, 5-11 October, we’re encouraging as many parents as possible to get clued up on the kinds of things a safe sports club should have in place for children.

We’re asking parents to check with their club for things like:

So make sure these things are ready and available to parents all year round by displaying them in venues, uploading them to the club website, or remind parents by emailing or sending copies home.

Spread the love
