This is a hugely exciting and unique opportunity to be part of the Sunderland Football Trust; a new charity which will be responsible for the strategic management three brand-new grassroots football hubs in the City. The new facilities are being developed through the Football Association, Sport England and Premier League’s revolutionary ‘Parklife’ programme in partnership with the Football Foundation along with Sunderland City Council.
The Parklife programme has the vision of creating multi-pitch artificial grass football hubs across England’s major towns and cities, where the need for good quality pitches is greatest, creating a passion and interest in football that lasts a lifetime.
Construction of the new hubs began in January 2019 and are due to become operational this year, enabling football to be played across the sites in the 2019/20 football season. Once built, the Sunderland Football Trust will be granted long- term leases for each of the 3 hubs – Community North Sports Complex, Ford Quarry and Northern Area which will together provide a total of ten new full-size artificial grass pitches. Each hub will be supported by pavilion buildings containing a café, social and education spaces and team changing rooms. In 2018, The Trust and Council jointly procured Pulse Soccer, a specialist leisure operator to run the hubs on their behalf.
The Sunderland Football Trust is now looking to appoint a minimum of two (2) Independent Trustees to the Board on a voluntary basis. The Trust is seeking individuals with extensive experience and knowledge gained in the areas of strategic planning for sport and expertise in using sport as a tool for inclusion and delivering wider social outcomes. The trust is also seeking for one of the independent Trustees to become the Trust’s Chair.
It is expected that Trustees will be required to commit a minimum of six days each year to the Charity, including Board meetings and the AGM. At the Trust’s discretion, a dedicated officer resource will be available from the Football Foundation to help support with administrative tasks.
The Sunderland Football Trust is a registered Charity & Company Ltd by Guarantee. The mission of the Football Trust is to use the power of sport, in particular football, to promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for playing football and other sports, capable of improving health.
