Life has an exciting vacancy for a creative and motivated individual to manage the Making Studios. Reporting into the Head of Public Engagement and supervising a Maker, you will help develop and facilitate imaginative and innovative making activities for science centre visitors and school groups.
Ideally, you will be an excellent communicator, with experience of working with children supervising craft or skills-based activities. An excellent presenter and facilitator and have experience of developing and delivering hands-on making activities in a busy, fast paced audience-focused environment. As the role involves bringing the philosophy of making and tinkering to a wide audience, you will need to be able to craft prototypes from different materials and be a competent user of digital tools. It is preferable you will have a degree in a STEM/creative subject (or equivalent qualification).
Applicants must be able to work flexible hours as the Science Centre – including in the Making Studios – which is open 7 days a week including the occasional evening event.
As well as the salary stated above and working in a welcoming friendly environment, the successful candidate will receive 23 days holiday plus bank holidays, an additional holiday on their birthday after 12 months service, access to a workplace pension and discounted car-parking in the centre of Newcastle.
