Funding opportunity for local schools

Funding opportunity for local schools back to News

We are leading a piece of work, on behalf of Sport England to find out more about the current opening hours of schools and possible future aspirations. The focus of the work is supporting schools to open up their facilities after the school day in a way that responds to local need.

All schools in the Tees Valley are invited to complete a short survey that will take no longer than ten minutes and all completed surveys will be entered into a prize draw to win a £400 sports voucher; one voucher will be available in each of the 5 districts of the Tees Valley.

School Sport Action Plan 2019; Opening School Facilities Brief:

The 2019 cross-government School Sport Action Plan identified the need to support schools to open up their facilities after the school day, at weekends and during the holidays as a high priority in order to help young people to access affordable, accessible sport and physical activity opportunities. Responses from the survey will be used along with national and local insight to build a picture of school facility use in the Tees Valley including:

Following the results of the survey, we would like to work with 5-8 schools to test ideas and activity directly supporting increased opening of school facilities with a particular focus on local community access. We have a small amount of funding to support this of approximately £4-5k available per school.

If you are interested in being considered for this pilot activity, please ensure you indicate this on the final question of the survey. You will need to be willing to work towards opening your facilities for community use or refining your approach if your facilities are already open; you must have some ideas of the support you require and be in a position to deliver any intervention by the end of the summer term 2020. We will work closely with you to develop your ideas and to implement them over the period of the project.

We hope this opportunity will be of interest to your school. Even if you do not intend to apply to be part of the pilot, we would urge you to complete the survey for a chance to win one of five £400 sports vouchers for your school.
