Satellite Clubs

Bringing Sport to Inactive Young People

This programme is to increase activity levels amongst inactive young people aged 14 to 19 yrs across the Tees Valley. We are working with community and youth organisations to support them in introducing physical activity to young people.

The target groups are identified through local area network meetings. There is particular emphasis on targeting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, getting more young women and girls to be active and working with young disabled people. Often organisations are able to use sport and physical activity interventions as a means of addressing local issues.
Programmes of activity will be designed in consultation with young people.

The aim for any Satellite Clubs programme is get young people involved in sport and physical activity and then to keep them active beyond the duration of the programme. Funding has been allocated to support the satellite clubs for a period of 18 months. Beyond this period there is an expectation that physical activity will be retained in their provision.
