Tees Valley Sport School Inclusion Network

We have held an inclusion network group for schools for the past 6 years which was designed to bring schools together to discuss updates, events, training opportunities and ideas for excellent practice. This has worked well, however after discussions with partners, we are bringing together a steering group to develop school and community links and help to co-create an offer that utilises the range of skills and expertise locally to increase the opportunities for all.

The idea behind expanding this group instead of holding 2 separate meetings is that we would like to create a Tees Valley inclusion steering group that is not solely school based but is able to link community organisations to the schools offer. We believe to have the most impact on our young people, we need to collaborate to create more links between school and community and provide pathways and opportunities for inclusion both during and beyond school.

The Inclusion Network is an integral part of the YST Inclusion Schools work and the new lead inclusion school is Kirkleatham Hall with Nicola Poulter as the lead teacher.

TVS, SGOs and the Lead inclusion school have worked hard on developing a new calendar of activities and CPD for the county.

Launching in September this new approach will support schools and community clubs with events programmed for SEND every term.

‘In May, we were proud to collaborate with British Judo on a pilot to tackle inequalities in sport through Judo. Children and young adults with additional support needs were given the opportunity through their school to attend a British Judo taster session at the Sports Village in Middlesbrough’.
