Initially launched in late March, Join the Movement provides inspiration and information to help people get active in an around their home during the lockdown. It encourages the public to share images or films of themselves getting active and shows people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds getting active in creative, clever and fun ways.
Join the Movement is supported by a website which brings together some of the best online workout and activity content, exclusive offers from providers such as Les Mills and Fiit and sections for specific demographics such as older adults, kids and those with long term health conditions.
It comes at a time when we are all concerned about the impact the ongoing lockdown is having on activity levels now and afterwards.
Sport England’s latest Active Lives survey shows activity levels were at a record high before the coronavirus outbreak and inactivity levels were falling. However, the data we have from the last couple of weeks raises serious concerns about the disruption the virus and restrictions are causing on the physical activity behaviors of both adults and children. While the majority of people recognise the importance of exercise to their physical and mental health at this time, our research also shows that some people are finding it harder to be regularly active than others – including older people, those on a low income, those living alone and those in urban areas.
The inequalities that we have worked hard to address could resurface and consequently it is essential we step up the campaign to help and encourage those finding it hardest to build activity into their day.
Ways we would love you to support the launch:
