Thornaby Cricket Club – Club officials on the front foot back to News

If you are a club, group or individual delivering sport or physical activity in the Tees Valley and you have been affected by the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) virus contact us at teesvalleysport@gmail.com The case study is one example of how a local club is finding support.

Thornaby Cricket Club in normal circumstances would have been looking forward to the beginning of the new cricket season. The dynamic club has adult and junior teams and has a long and proud history stretching back to their formation in 1896.

The loss of income associated with the closure of facilities during Covid 19 has presented a number of challenges to the club. Club officials have been busy applying for funding support to help alleviate problems with the loss of their income streams. The club has excellent on site facilities including a clubhouse with bar, function rooms augmenting excellent cricket facilities.

Over recent weeks they secured a grant from Government administered at local level by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Other local councils are offering similar grants so please check out the support available with your local council for your club.

In addition to this they have recently submitted an application to the Sport England Community Emergency Fund.

The club is also exploring options to submit a funding bid to the recently established England Cricket Board Covid 19 funding programme.

The club are determined to ensure that the future of cricket in the town is sustained for many generations beyond Covid 19 and are a great example of how club volunteers are working tirelessly to deal with many problems linked to the current pandemic.
