English Amateur Dancesport Association

EADA

The English Amateur Dancesport Association (EADA) is the national governing body for amateur dancesport (competitive Ballroom, Latin American & Sequence dancing) who also work alongside the national associations for Rock n Roll and Wheelchair dancing.

EADA is a not-for-profit organisation which acts as the voice of amateur dancers by representing competitors interests, providing members with administrative support and resources and subsidising training. EADA also aims to raise the profile of dancesport and encourage dancing at a grassroots level.

EADA maintains the national charts in Ballroom, Latin and Sequence dancing, selecting competitions around the country to act as national ranking events and EADA administers the amateur coaching scheme. The Association advises dance organisations on changes in regulations including health & safety and child protection. EADA is recognised by Sport England, UK Sport, the National Olympic Committee (dancesport has been recognised by the Olympics since 1997), the World Anti Doping Association, the Sports & Recreation Alliance and the Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership; who represent Sport England s interest in Movement and Dance.

EADA have just launched Destined to Dance ; a new initiative, which is designed to promote dancing to schoolchildren of all ages. The initiative aims to encourage more children to try dancing and thereby help tackle childhood obesity and improve their posture, coordination and social skills. Dancesport professionals and schoolteachers work together to offer Ballroom & Latin as part of the curriculum or as an after school club. For a minimal fee, schoolteachers attend a one-day seminar hosted by a dancesport professional to learn how to teach a basic course in Ballroom & Latin. EADA would be keen to work with any organisations looking to promote dance to children and young people. For more information, please visit www.destinedtodance.org.uk EADA can also provide couples to perform as part of shows and events across the country. Couples have performed previously at numerous high profile events and venues including the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth games, the Hammersmith Palais for Elton John s birthday, the Royal Albert Hall, Strictly Come Dancing, Trafalgar Square, Harrods, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Dancesport is a recognised Olympic sport and bridges sport and the arts, so our international competitors would be ideal as performers as part of the Olympic celebrations and we could put you in touch with dancers in your local area.

If anyone is looking for a Ballroom or Latin class we can put them in touch with a teacher in their local area.
