Badminton

Badminton

Badminton is the most-played racket sport in the world and 4th most popular sport overall, appealing to all ages, genders and standards, and offering fun participation through to a competitive structure. Due to its popularity, BADMINTON England has a growing network of 3500 clubs and as a sport, boasts attractive health benefits and participation opportunities all year round.

Fund Raising

A badminton themed fundraising day will take place at Teesside University to raise money for Sport Relief on the 25th February 2012, 10am - 2pm in the University's main sports facility (Olympia). The event involves a number of badminton challenges as well as a cake stall, raffle, quiz and sport relief mile. The event is open to the whole community and there is going to be a special family hour. The aim is to raise £2000 during the event.  For more details please email Emily Baldwin.

Clubs

Tees Valley has an extensive number of clubs across the Tees Valley with the numbers continuing to grow. Clubs provide a platform to increase competitive opportunities and raise standards for all players. Tees Valley is lucky enough to have many senior and junior clubs, many of which are of the Clubmark standard or Premier Club status. To find a club please follow the following link:

Schools

BADMINTON England recognise that schools are an integral part of growing the game, that is why we offer a variety of opportunities to engage children/young people. Each year we run the Centre Parcs National Schools Championship, this competition has over 15,000 competitors and is one of the biggest and best on offer to young people with the final being held at Centre Parcs. We also offer a number of resource packs and professional development course to assist with the delivery of Badminton in both curricula and extra curricula activities.

Community

Badminton has a huge number of players outside of the club structure who we need to cater for. No Strings Badminton sessions are held at leisure centres and various other community sites and provide opportunities to participate in the sport without the need to join a club. No Strings Leisure Centre Championships are held annual giving you to showcase your ability in a national competition restricted to leisure centre players.

Volunteers

BADMINTON England and the Teesside Badminton Development Association works to help clubs recruit, retain and recognise volunteers, by working with clubs to ensure that they are able to provide the support their volunteers need to make them feel valued and to make their volunteering a rewarding experience. We offer two different courses for juniors interested in volunteering: Young Official Award and the Badminton Junior Helper Award.

Young Officials Award

The Badminton Young Officials Award (YOA) is aimed at young people aged 14-19. The course is a combination of practical and theory sessions designed to equip the Young Official with the necessary skills and a qualification that will allow them to officiate at badminton events.

BADMINTON England work very closely with the Teesside Badminton Development Association, who organise local junior tournaments which are open to beginners to county players. Please visit the TBDA website to find the right tournament for you: www.teesvalleybadminton.co.uk
