Understanding Childhood Obesity

Childhood Obesity is an increasing issue amongst our young populations; this training package has been developed by North East Public Health Observatory and colleagues to support practitioners to gain consistent and accurate knowledge around Childhood Obesity and the surrounding issues of obesity.

The training package has been adapted to be rolled out among a broad range of practitioners in the Tees Valley. The workshops aim to look at the following areas:

  • What is childhood obesity?
  • Scale of the Problem.
  • The Risk of Obesity.
  • Identifying and Raising the Issue of Obesity.
  • Sign posting to local provision and services.

The presentation has a look at local data and also considered local services and programmes to support practitioners in giving support and advice to children and families.

The training hopes to up skill practitioners to feel confident in being able to support overweight and obese children to access services and support if they choose to as well as feeling confident to raise the issue.
