Standard Evaluation Framework

The SEF is a list of data collection criteria and supporting guidance for collecting high quality information that supports the evaluation of weight management, physical activity and dietary intake interventions across England.

It is intended to be applicable to a range of approaches including interventions conducted with individuals on a one-to one basis or in groups, and in clinical or community settings.

The SEF is not intended for use with:

• Medical interventions such as surgery and medications;

• Wider environmental interventions such as changes to the built environment (although the

SEF could support the evaluation of such interventions alongside wider evaluation criteria).

The SEF aims to support high-quality, consistent evaluation of weight management interventions in order to increase the evidence base.

Across the Tees Valley a number of Standard Evaluation Framework Awareness sessions have been delivered. This has introduced practitioners to the SEF and explored opportunities for development to support effective use of the SEF among a broad range of partners.

Further developments of the SEF are currently on hold due to funding freezes however if you would like to discuss any aspects of the SEF or future developments please contact Dr Louisa Ells on l.ells@durham.ac.uk or visit the Collection of Resources on Evaluation at http://www.noo.org.uk/evaluation_portal
