Review of Coach Mentoring Scheme

The Tees Valley Coach Mentoring Scheme was introduced in the summer of 2009 to develop the mentoring skills of 12 coaches working with less experienced coaches. Several of the coach mentors were based in local sports clubs. The main aims of the programme were to:

• Recognise, reward and support the ongoing professional development of coaches within Tees Valley

• Provide a positive way of supporting coaches in their roles

• Provide opportunities to help coaches to improve their techniques

• Support the delivery of quality coaching in disability sports

• Support the recruitment and development of more women coaches

• Provide a coach support network across a range of sports in Tees Valley.

To achieve these aims, the scheme sought to recruit, train and deploy a team of coach mentors. The mentors would be used to support existing club coaches to improve their delivery and to support newly qualified coaches to progress through programmes such as the Sports Universities North East England volunteering programme. A full evaluation of the scheme has now been completed and the report can be accessed by clicking here.
