Physical activity action planning process
The Partnership has been commissioned by the Department of Health to develop the delivery of physical activity with a specific focus on the Be Active, Be Healthy Strategy.
As part of this work we are now required to develop a sub regional Physical Activity Action Plan designed to increase coordination between partners and the implementation of their strategic plans and action plans. This builds on the recent Physical Activity Interventions audit undertaken by PMP Genesis. The Action Plan will specifically help to maximise investment opportunities through a cross sector approach to the delivery of physical activity based on local priorities and need.
The Government has set an ambitious target of getting 2 million people more active by 2012across the sport and physical activity sectors. The Action Plan will help establish a foundation for aligning physical activity alongside sport and engage a broad range of partners to build fitter and healthier communities in the Tees Valley.
Developing the Action Plan
A recent workshop disseminating information from a regional review of physical activity interventions in the north east delivered by PMP Genesis and Sheffield Hallam University engaged a broad range of partners in the Tees Valley. Discussions at the workshop helped to shape emerging themes and priorities for the Tees Valley Physical Activity Action Plan and these will now form the basis of further consultation with partners. The following themes for action were identified;
- Using market segmentation to help develop interventions and influence promotional campaigns
- Influencing policy and strategy to develop and improve the facility infrastructure
- Strengthening delivery and increasing the opportunities to be more active
- Developing workforce capacity
- Improving evaluation and building a reliable evidence base
We are keen to establish if these themes are relevant to the development of the Tees Valley Action Plan and if they provide a framework for partnership actions. The attached table provides an opportunity to comment on a variety of issues relating to each themed and proposed area for development.
Please add your organisations comments in the “What we need to do” and “Resources and Lead Organisation” columns. This detail will support in reflecting partnership priorities and gain additional information to continue to develop emerging actions and outcomes of the Plan. You may not feel the need to complete all sections. However please feedback on all aspects you feel are relevant to your organisational priorities. An example of the suggested level of detail is included in section 1.1.
Please could you return the table complete with your comments by Friday 14th May 2010. A further meeting will be organised in May to review feedback and a working group established to oversee the completion of the Action Plan.
