London 2012 Legacy Plan Launch

The North East Champion for Community Sport Peter Rowley formally launched the Tees Valley 2012 Legacy Action Plan at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington on Friday 20 August. The event was attended by a variety of partners and we were grateful for a group of young people and their coaches from Darlington, who helped the launch with a fantastic gymnastics display.  Click here to access the article which featured in the Northern Echo on Saturday 21 August.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will provide a unique opportunity to inspire and increase participation in sport, physical activity and cultural activities across the Tees Valley. Tees Valley Sport partners are working together to deliver a lasting legacy which will improve grass roots sport, nurture our local talented athletes and support our sports coaches, leaders and volunteers.

Partners will deliver a range of national and local programmes to inspire more people to play, coach, compete or volunteer in sport and physical activity.

• The Partnership will increase the number of clubs gaining Clubmark accreditation ensuring that we have a network of clubs committed to delivering safe, effective and child friendly sessions.

• A Partnership Youth Games will run annually to 2012. The event will be for 16-19 year olds and will inspire their future participation in sport. The 2010 event attracted 500 participants

• An annual Leaders Award Evening will be held for young people active in our local clubs and community groups

• A Future Champions scheme will be launched at the end of August to support and enhance our local talented athletes.

The Tees Valley Sport Partnership envisages that the Legacy for the Tees Valley from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will inspire a generation of young people and create a lasting legacy to 2016 and beyond. You can access an electronic version of the Legacy Action Plan below.
