GEM Leader Training Course
Do you want to make a difference to people's lives?
Are you enthusiastic and able to motivate others?
Maybe you are already in the fitness industry and looking for a new direction in your career? Or perhaps you work with people who would enjoy the chance to participate in low level exercise?
GEM training could be just what you need to GET EVERYBODY MOTIVATED!
What is GEM?
GEM (Get Everybody Motivated) is a low level physical activity programme aimed at people returning to exercise from an illness or injury or those who are new to exercise and want to take the first steps to a healthier more active lifestyle. GEM leaders can deliver sessions in a whole range of environments, from local parks, sports centres, sheltered accommodation to community centres and anything in between.
How do I become a GEM Leader?
To become a GEM Leader you need to complete the Open College Network GEM Leaders course. This will give you a level 2 qualification and allow you to lead a GEM session within your organisation or on behalf of Darlington Borough Council.
The course covers:
• what constitutes a healthy lifestyle
• leadership skills
• stress and stress management and
• how to plan deliver and evaluate a safe and effective GEM session.
There are tutored sessions covering a total of 30 learning hours and some homework tasks are required in order to reach the required standard. Experience of exercise and physical activity is useful but not essential.
When is the next course?
The next course is planned for October 2011.
If you require further information or are interested in becoming a GEM leader please contact the Darlington Sports Development on 01325 254370 or email sdt@darlington.gov.uk
