England Head Coach to launch North East RLC
On Sunday 17th April the North East Rugby League Conference will launch in style with Steve McNamara, England Head Coach, being present at an exciting touch competition and RLC Launch photograph event at Gateshead International Stadium.
The touch competition will see North East RLC teams compete against invitational teams from Teesside and Northumbria University and an RAF Leeming team to be crowned the RLC Touch Champions. The touch event will then be followed with the RLC Launch photograph and an afternoon of Rugby League watching Gateshead Thunder v Workington Town.
The event has been arranged through the RFL in conjunction with Gateshead Thunder and Northumbria University students in order to host what is sure to be an exciting warm up for the RLC season which begins on Saturday 30th April.
In addition to attending the RLC Launch Event Steve McNamara will also host a coaching seminar at the Stadium for North East Rugby League coaches.
Jade Mackie, Volunteer Coordinator stated 'When the students originally came to us with their ideas for a project I don't think anyone envisaged how huge the event would become. It will be great to see how the RLC teams will fair in the touch competition and should be a great day for all the family to attend.
Also, to be able to welcome the England Head Coach to the region for this event is a great endorsement to how much Rugby League is developing across the whole of the country.
A massive thank you is extended to the student's who have worked on the event and Gateshead Thunder who are sponsoring the trophy and providing free tickets to the Workington game.
I am really looking forward to the day and hope everyone in the North East shows their support for an event which can only get bigger in years to come.'
The touch event will commence at 10am with the final being held around 1.30pm. Drinks and refreshment will be available throughout the day. So get yourselves down, it is not to be missed!!
