Teesside University Volunteer Project
Is your sports club interested in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student volunteers? By working with partners, like you, Sports Universities North East England (SUNEE) can develop and create volunteer opportunities that match student's career ambitions, working within a wide range of sports clubs and in a variety of roles including coaching, officiating, marketing and event management.
Teesside University has a large number of student volunteers eager to work in the community and has an excellent track record of supporting local clubs and projects. With funding and involvement from the communities in the region, the five North East Universities (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside) that make up SUNEE will use sport to:
• Work with hard to reach groups
• Increase volunteering opportunities
• Integrate into coaching programmes Introduce healthy campus initiatives
• Develop high performance talent camps
• Increase participation in sport
A number of social inclusion and community projects have been funded through HEFCE, The Football Foundation, The Northern Rock Foundation and Sport England. In today's competitive job market University students are no longer able to gain employment with just a degree; they need to gain a wide breadth of experience to accompany it for employers to consider them as possible candidates. The SUNEE projects aim to address this issue by encouraging and supporting students in volunteer roles so that they gain invaluable experience that will compliment their degree and enhance their employability. As a reward for their dedication and commitment to the project students are able to access funding towards their level 1 and 2 coaching awards to help develop their skills and ensure their coaching performance is to a high standard.
