Step Into Sport Leadership Academies

If you are already involved in club sport, the Step into Sport Young Sports Volunteer programme is an ideal way to developing your leadership skills, and will provide you with the necessary training and qualifications to enable you to volunteer in your community.

What is a College Leadership Academy?

A leadership Academy is essentially a 'Leadership Club', designed to provide high quality, regular support, training and development for young people that are committed to actively volunteering within their college and/or community setting in order to develop and grow them as young people and as leaders and volunteers. The Academies are based in FE and Sixth Form Colleges in the Tees Valley and are coordinated by Further Education Sport Coordinators (FESCo's).

Aims of a Leadership Academy

• Supporting young leaders by delivering appropriate qualifications and awards

• Provide opportunities for young leaders to learn from their peers

• Share a wide menu of volunteer opportunities and provide preparation and support for young leaders to undertake appropriate placements and volunteer experiences, such as school sport, community clubs, events and organisations.

• Provide mentoring support to young leaders on a group and individual basis

• Celebrate, profile and reward the contribution that Young Leaders make to school and community sport

Speak to a member of your P.E staff or your college FESCo for more information on how to be included in a College Leadership Academy.

Tees Valley Leadership Academy

We are able to offer a limited of places to young volunteers from colleges to take part in a Tees Valley Academy run in partnership with Teesside Business School and the Teesside University volunteer project (SUNEE). This involves a series of two day modules being delivered at the University in Event Management, Business Skills and Leadership. This is a great opportunity for a young volunteer to gain qualifications and also receive UCAS points, if they are interested in a university education. Further details will be available through the college FESCo's.
