Coach Mentoring Scheme

12 coaches participated in the Tees Valley Coach mentoring scheme. The coaches were from a variety of backgrounds and had a wealth of coaching experience in many different sports. Mentoring of coaches is crucial to coach development in the partnership and the mentoring progamme will play a major role in helping to raise the standards of coaching in the Tees Valley.

The training was delivered by Carol Hawman who has considerable experience of providing coach management and development programmes working with organisations such as the Youth Sport Trust, sports coach uk and several NGBs.

 The 12 coaches who accessed the specialist training were;

  • Craig Archer-Middlesbrough Sports Development/range of sports
  • Glen Fenby-Swimming coach
  • Phil Nedley-England and Wales Cricket Board
  • Neil Young FESCo/Rugby Union & Sportsability club
  • Thomas Hughes-Multi sports Community Sports Coach
  • Wayne Park-Hartlepool Sixth Form College/ Football coach and PE
  • Howard Leighton-Middlesbrough UCA/Basketball
  • Vickie Todd-Teesside University/SUNEE volunteer project
  • Rachel Watson-Student/Netball coach
  • Natalie Wood-Trampolining coach

Mentoring of coaches will play a major role in helping to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Recognise, reward and support the ongoing professional development of coaches within the Tees Valley
  • Provide a positive way of supporting coaches in their roles
  • Provide opportunities to help coaches improve their techniques
  • Support the delivery of quality coaching in disability sports
  • Support the recruitment and development of more women coaches
  • Provide a coach support network across a range of sports in the Tees Valley
