The final development evening of our coach, leader & volunteer programme is almost upon us so don't miss out on your chance to learn from the experts!

Over 30 coaches have attended the previous two and have all provided excellent feedback, as Peter Rowley, regional champion for community sport in the North East as well as a passionate runner and club coach at Quakers Running Club explains:

"I wanted to broaden and deepen my perspective as a coach. The content did not disappoint, it deepened my knowledge about planning and monitoring training, not just for myself, but for a group of runners. It also dispelled/corrected a few myths and provided the opportunity to interact with experienced presenters and other coaches - a great confidence builder."

"At just £10 for a 3hour workshop, it's great value and an opportunity to mix with coaches from other sports interested in developing athletes and enhancing performance."

How do you know if your athletes are training at the correct intensity?

Are they doing too much, training too often, or not doing enough?

This interactive workshop with experts in Strength & Conditioning, Movement Injury prevention from Teesside University investigates methods of planning, monitoring & recovery of training to maximise athletes sporting potential.

The evening will provide a cross sport learning opportunity covering the 3 workshops detailed below;

Workshop 1 - Training to minimise injuries: A biomechanical perspective

This session will consider methods that coaches and athletes can consider reducing the risk of injuries during training and competition. Taking a biomechanical perspective on training techniques and approach to preparing athletes to complete this session will be underpinned by scientific theory and will provide practical solutions for participants to take away.

Attendees will be encouraged to share ideas and exchange models of practice and consider solutions for the future. Key areas covered will be; flexibility training, movements screening, postural analysis, weekly loading, long term development and individualising of training.

Workshop 2 - Planning and monitoring your training sessions

How do you know if your athletes are training at the correct intensity? Are they doing too much, training too often, or not doing enough?

This workshop will investigate methods of planning and monitoring training to allow adaptation to occur. There will be a particular focus with regard to monitoring of training load and recovery.

The goals of the workshop are to understand the super compensation cycle, understand how planning and monitoring using cheap and simple tools can help you enhance adaptation through super compensation. The use of ratings of perceived exertion (RPE), Heart Rate Loading and recovery scales will be discussed.

Workshop 3 - Pre-habilitation: Movement preparation for optimal performance

This session will consider movement pattern and physical development issues in designing and delivering complimentary physical preparation programmes to optimise training and performance. The session will focus on identifying the primitive movement patterns that are the building blocks of sport skill.

The session will be interactive allowing attendees to experience some of the key movement elements and to engage in discussion on ideas and practice for implementation. Emphasis will be optimising the physical attributes the child brings to the sport to maximise performance potential

Key areas covered will be influence of growth and maturation on flexibility, movements patterning, and posture and alignment.
