The Leisure and Sports Development Talented Athlete Grant is an NHS Stockton funded grant programme open to athletes who are competing or aspiring at county level (or equivalent) or above and residing within the borough of Stockton-on-Tees.

The aim of the scheme is to support the progression of athletes by awarding grants of up to £200. Applications can be received up to the sum of £350 but further evidence of why this is needed must be demonstrated. The funding is to assist athletes with costs associated with competing at a higher level and the purchasing of equipment to enable them to compete or train.

Applications can be made at any time and are being accepted up until 31 July 2011. A grants panel will meet, in January, April and August 2011 to assess applications

Eligibility

Athletes wishing to apply must be eligible to do so by qualifying through the following criteria:

  • Your sport must be recognised by Sport England
  • You must be competing at or aspiring towards county level (or equivalent) or above
  • Applications are welcomed from young athletes aged 12-18 and disabled athletes
  • You must reside within the borough of Stockton on Tees
  • Endorsement from your sports National Governing Body must be received (this will be sought by the Leisure & Sports Development Team)

Other Considerations

Any funding awarded to you through this grant application process must be spent within one year of receipt of the funding.

Only 1 application per athlete will be considered.

You will be required to provide a 6 month and yearly report to the Leisure & Sports Development Team with any progress you are making in your sport. (This could include competition results, selection to represent teams, publicity and recognition awards).

You will also be required to be a good role model to other and you may be asked to represent Stockton Borough Council at an event or school

Preference will be given to application from athletes residing in the top 10% most deprived Super Output Areas and the neighbouring Super Output Areas of Stockton, please see attached map.
