Funding for Clubs

Each of the local authorities in the Tees Valley helps coordinate a Community Sports Network (CSNs). These networks have been established to help develop sport and physical activity, and can help support clubs with funding ideas.

A full list of all the funding schemes is attached below or you can scroll down to read a summary of each scheme and click on 'more details' to access the full information.  A document is also attached outlining funding opportunities for coaching nationally.


The funds have been categorised into 4 areas as listed below. Please be aware that some funds apply to multiple sections therefore if you are working on a specific project you may need to read through all the sections. Facilities

Sportsmatch

The Sport England Sportsmatch programme increases investment in community sport by matching new sponsorship money pound for pound. More details


SITA Trust Enhancing Communities Programme - Small Grants

The Small Grants Scheme provides funding for physical improvements to community facilities including sport and recreation facilities up to £10,000. Any not-for-profit organisation including community groups, parish councils, charities, local authorities and voluntary organisations may apply. Projects must have a total cost of £20,000 or less. £1 million Queen Elizabeth II Major Works Fund

The QEII Major Works Fund will award up to a maximum of £25,000 for projects that also focus on delivery by volunteers, but will allow major works to be carried out by contractors. More details.


Sport England Inspired Facilities Fund

This fund will be launched on 18th July 2011; clubs, community & voluntary sector groups can apply for £20,000-£50,000 and councils and schools can apply for £20,000-£150,000 from where there is a proven local need for a facility to be modernised, extended or modified to open up new sporting opportunities. Sport England Iconic Facilities Fund

Iconic Facilities will use the inspirational pull of London 2012 to enhance an existing, successful Sport England National Lottery funding programme. This fund will create local beacons for grassroots sport by supporting innovative large scale multi-sport facilities' projects that are regionally significant for at least two sports. Investment will be restricted to projects that demonstrate long-term financial viability. More details.


Sport England Protecting Playing Fields

The fund will improve the condition of existing playing fields, bring disused playing fields back into use, create playing field land and offer support to those looking to protect playing fields. More details.

Individual

Funding for Games Makers

Play Your Part, a scheme that has raised money from regional partners, businesses and members of the public in the North East, supports young people in order that they are able to take up volunteer opportunities at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, as well as sporting events of the future. More details.


Future Sport

Future Sport is a charity dedicated to supporting young people and assisting their progress in sport in North East England. Focusing on the grass roots, Future Sport raises money in order to offer grants to promising youngsters from a wide variety of backgrounds particularly targeting the socially and economically disadvantaged, whatever sport they participate in. Enable Sport Programme - Caudwell Children

The "Enable Sport" programme has been launched by Caudwell Children, in partnership with Barclays Wealth, to fund adapted sports equipment for gifted and talented disabled children age 18 and under participating in competitive sport. More details

Barclays Community Sports Awards

This is a new award to recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups that use sport to benefit communities across the UK. More details.


Torch Trophy Trust Bursaries

The aim of the Bursaries is to help volunteers to improve their skills as coaches or officials but are unable to do so without funding. The Bursaries provide financial support for those wishing to undertake training. More details.


Nancy Ovens Trust

The bursary, sponsored by SkillsActive and awarded by the Nancy Ovens Trust, is aimed at paid or voluntary coaches and leaders who work with children and young people in the active leisure and learning sector. The bursary is awarded to a coach or leader to allow them to enhance their own skills and knowledge by taking part in studies or activities outside of their community. More details.


Tanya Bocking Memorial Fund

This fund has been created in Tanya's memory to support individuals, particularly women, who have chosen a career in outdoor education but face real barriers in advancing that career, such as discrimination or low income. The fund will make a difference by paying for training and qualification courses that will enable new outdoor leaders to learn, progress and excel in helping others. More detail.


Dickie Bird Foundation

The vision of the Foundation is to assist young people under 18 years of age to participate, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice irrespective of their social circumstances, culture or ethnicity, and to ensure that, in doing so, they improve their chances both inside and outside sport. Tony Blair Foundation

The Foundation will pay 50% of the cost of a Level 1 coaching or officiating qualification and will then work with you to find a suitable coaching placement within your community. More details.


Teesside University Volunteer Project

As a reward for their dedication and commitment to the project students are able to access funding towards their level 1 and 2 coaching awards to help develop their skills and ensure their coaching performance is to a high standard. More details.


Tees Valley Community Foundation (Individuals)

Tees Valley Foundation is delighted to host a number of bursaries for individuals to support a variety of endeavours from education, sport to the performing arts. More details.


County Durham Community Foundation (Individuals)

Individuals are supported through many funds such as the BAT Bursary Fund, Family Relief Fund and Hylton House Fund. More details.

Clubs and Coaches

Health Communities Small Grants Programme

The Healthy Communities Programme makes grants of £5,000-£10,000 available to small community and voluntary organisations and groups to support an improvement in health and well-being in their local communities. More details.


Sport England Small Grants Programme

The Sport England Small Grants Programme has been set up to support local community sport projects which seek to increase participation, sustain participation or develop opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport. More details.


Cash 4 Clubs

Cash 4 Clubs is a sports funding scheme which gives clubs a unique chance to apply for grants to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications, and generally invest in the sustainability of their club. More details


Mars Refuel Fund

The MARS Refuel Fund is offering support with anything from equipment costs, to improving training grounds and club houses. More details


JustGiving for Sports Clubs

Sport England, JustGiving, and CCPR have come together to make it easier for clubs to raise money and claim Gift Aid, enabling volunteers to spend more time on sport and less time on administration. More details.


Wells Sports Foundation

The Foundation is now providing support to Clubmark Clubs for grassroots sports projects. 50% grants of £500 to £2,000 (total project cost £5,000) are available for a range of projects including equipment, CRB checks, coaching and umpiring qualifications. More details.


Live Unltd

Led by a team of passionate young people, Live UnLtd will provide other young people with exciting opportunities to start up their own businesses, sports teams, recreational groups and host events after being given funding of up to £2,000 per individual, coupled with a model of non-financial support from a designated development manager in their region. Wakeham Trust

Groups of individuals as well as small community and voluntary groups within the UK that want to improve their communities can apply for funding through the Wakeham Trust. More details.


Easy Fund Raising

A new and innovative way your club can raise funds through its members is to sign up for Easy Fundraising. Easy Fundraising provides a FREE fundraising service where funds can be raised for the club by your club members every time they shop online. More details.


Barclays Community Sports Awards

Banks Community Fund

The Banks Group looks for opportunities to make a real difference and to provide lasting community and environmental benefits. Potential projects can be put forward by local authorities, environmental organisations, community groups and individuals. The Banks Foundation distributes funding in various parts of the country and all projects must fall within the vicinity of a Banks Group development and should be within ten miles of a waste management facility. Swimathon Foundation

The Swimathon Foundation is offering grants of between £300 and £2500 to swimming pools, community organisations and charities who can demonstrate how the funding will allow them to increase particiaption in swimming and make it more accessible. The deadline for the first round of applications is 21 March 2011. Applicants must be a representative of, or have the support of, a pool participating in Swimathon or Simply Swim 2011. Kelloggs Active Living Fund

The fund will give small grants to fund projects and activities that directly lead to people taking part in sustained physical activity. The aim of the fund is to help remove the "barriers" which stop people being active. The maximum grant that can be awarded is £1000. More details.


Northern Rock Foundation

This grant programmes exist to support charitable activities that have particular results, and which contribute to the aims: tackling disadvantage and improving quality of life in North East England and Cumbria. More details.


Santander Foundation

The funding is to help disadvantaged people through one of both of these charitable priorities - education and training or financial capability. More details.


Greggs Foundation

The Greggs Foundation donates around £1.3million per year to disadvantaged people in the heart of Gregg's local communities. The Greggs Foundation has four principal grant programmes through which it channels its community investments, major grants, regional grants, breakfast club and hardship fund. More details.


Comic Relief Sport for Change

The primary goal is to bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people, which requires investing in work that addresses people's immediate needs as well as tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice. These principles are used to help inform how funds are allocated, and organisations applying for a grant will need to demonstrate how their work takes account these areas. More details.


Royal Bank of Scotland Sport for You Grant

The scheme aims to provide grants to sports clubs who play a vital role in society, create a place for social interaction and an environment where different generations come together to be active and share the joy of sports participation. More details.


Lloyds TSB Foundation

The Community programme focuses on funding core work that helps disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community. More details.


Swimming Trust Coach Education Grant Fund

The funding offers training opportunities for up to 120 volunteers within Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo clubs across the UK. More details.

A free to use funding search site, containing the most comprehensive and up-to-date database of grants, loans and other initiatives operating in the UK.


HSBC Golf Roots Plus Funding

This scheme provides funding for projects where the development of life skills is the primary purpose using golf as the catalyst. The scheme provides up to £2,500 of project funding to local delivery partners such as a youth services, local authorities, police services or partnership of schools. More details.


Tees Valley Community Foundation (Groups)

The charity responds to local needs and channel all charitable donations and community investment directly into grass roots community and voluntary groups and projects, particularly to alleviate all forms of disadvantage and improve the quality of life in our area. More details.


County Durham Community Foundation (Groups)

The Foundation manages over 135 charitable funds on behalf of local companies, families, individuals, trusts and public bodies. More details.


Big Lottery Fund (BIG) - Reaching Communities

BIG want to fund projects that respond to needs identified by communities and those that fund projects that help those most in need including those people or groups who are hard to reach. More details.

StreetGames are looking to help support and fund small 50 people festivals. More details.
