Darlington Amateur Swimming Club
Swimming (and its various disciplines) is the only sport in the Tees Valley to have signed up all of its clubs to the Benefits Package. Darlington Amateur Swimming Club (DASC) is one of these 12 clubs and they are already accessing some of the training and support offered.
The support has enabled poolside coaches and club committee members from both the swimming and diving sections to undergo training in safeguarding and protecting children, club equity and coaching disabled performers.
The swimming section also aims to use the funding to support the up-skilling of existing coaches, through two new Level 1 coaches, two Level 2 coaches and a Level 3 coach. In addition, they hope to use some funding to train coaches in the instruction of swimmers with disabilities, through completing Level 1 and 2 Teaching (swimmers with disabilities).
Alongside this the diving club plan to train new and existing diving and trampolining coaches (an essential element to their training regime) to help their section develop.
Through the Benefits Package support DASC have recently enjoyed a double celebration, having been awarded Swim 21 Accreditation for both Swimming and Diving, making them the first club in the North East to get the Swim 21 award for two aquatic disciplines. The club are now working on strengthening their links with local schools and are seeking to extend the disability section.
