2012 Legacy
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games provide us with a unique opportunity to inspire and increase participation in sport, physical and cultural activities across the Tees Valley. The Tees Valley Sport partners are working together to deliver a lasting legacy which invests in our grass roots, nurtures talent and values and supports our volunteer base.
Our action plan - The Lasting Legacy - does not finish in 2012; it is a legacy to take us to 2016 and beyond. Developed around three themes - participation, performance sport and leadership, coaching and volunteering - we will use the magic of the 2012 Games to inspire individuals and communities across the Tees Valley.
The Lasting Legacy delivers an exciting series of joint initiatives in our partner districts; Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on- Tees. It provides a framework for action across the Tees Valley whilst also supporting the range of national and local activity which our partners are delivering.
The Lasting Legacy will contribute to three key government legacy promises:
- To make the UK a world leading sport nation
- To deliver a lasting legacy for disabled people; changing attitutes and perceptions and increasing participation in sport and physical activity
- To inspire a generation of young people
